The Day Brightener

Because everyone has the right to be truly free and happy

Headed for the Open Door!

by Belinda Reed

Well you would never guess – as I was driving along thinking about my previous post Regret and Responsibility, the following song came on the radio.  It is ‘We Come Running’ by Youngblood Hawke.

What a coincidence (although we know there are none of these).  Just as I was musing the concept of an open door and taking the first few steps on a new path, here comes an anthem for just that.

“Headed for the open door
tell me what you’re waiting for
look across the great divide
soon they’re gunna hear
the sound, the sound, the sound
when we come running “

The lyrics just hit home for me.  For many weeks I have been contemplating the divide between where my life is, and where I want it to be, and the responsibility and power I have for bridging this gap.

The image these words conjure in my mind are also just wonderful.  I picture whole bunch of people running free, big smiles on their faces, truly happy with their chosen paths.  The work that incredible people like Jane Teresa Anderson (www.dream.net.au), Scott Dinsmore ( Live Your Legend ) and Michael Bungay Stanier (Box of Crayons) are doing are making this image a reality.

I also find the analogies in the video clip great.  The sharks represent for me many of my own beliefs and fears, that keep me trapped in regret.  It is a nice thought to be able to give them a poke if they get too close!

And so I share this song as one of support to all those people who are thinking about, or taking action to find and live their passions.  Those who are mustering the courage to find the open doors and to take the first steps to be the best person they can be.

Congratulations to you all!!

Under a pale blue sky
you never felt so cold
another sleepless night
how could you ever let go
how do you recognize
the dirty face of gold
behind that crooked line
where you never knew you’d go

Headed for the open door
tell me what you’re waiting for
look across the great divide
soon they’re gunna hear
the sound, the sound, the sound
when we come running
never go where we belong
echoes in the dead of dawn
soon they’re gunna know
the sound, the sound, the sound
when we come running

the sound, the sound, the sound
when we come running

when the worlds gone quiet
I see you dancing slow
feeling satisfied
where you never knew you’d go
