Because everyone has the right to be truly free and happy
A warm welcome to this Day Brightener post, the first one for several weeks. The reason for the radio silence is a good one. I have begun a quest. Not a tour, trek or cruise, but a spiritual journey of sorts. I have begun exploring the largely unchartered territories of my heart and mind. The journey involves both retreat (to understand my true nature) and expedition (to understand the nature of reality). It is a journey that will take many years. However I have already begun to uncover some wonderful treasures along the way. I look forward to sharing them with you.
The treasure which is the topic of the next few posts is that of kindness. I think it is fitting to dwell on kindness at this time of year to help counteract the consumerism that comes with the Christmas season. So often we are encouraged to hoard and overindulge, and (thanks to the media and the retail industry) our children are encouraged to obsess about what they will receive.
I truly believe that happiness comes not from what you get from this world, but what you give to it.
And that is why when I saw the Acts of Kindness Advent CalendarI was really impressed. It is such a wonderful idea, I am only sorry I did not find it earlier. Every day the calendar provides an idea of a kind deed that you can do. They are only small and simple tasks, but each one has the potential to brighten someone’s day. And as Scott Adams said:
“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”
So, sign up to the calendar today, and watch the ripples of kindness and happiness flow and grow. Who knows how far and wide they may have travelled by Christmas! Maybe you would like to share this with your children as well, just so they don’t think advent calendars are all about Santa Claus chocolates. It would be a great way to get them learning about the joy of kindness and the true sources of happiness.
I hope you enjoy the Calendar and all of the happiness that it brings.
